Linq SmartVents takes first at the Student Innovator of the Year competition

The judges have chosen Linq SmartVents as the 2014 Student Innovator of the Year and grand prize recipient of $5,000. They also received the $1,000 prize for "Crowd Favorite."  Innovation enthusiasts, interested investors and supportive peers packed the WSC Varsity Theatre Thursday to watch the finalists present their inventions.

On Thursday, Oct. 23, Rob Galloway spoke on the “Law of Vision” and the world’s need for problem solvers as part of the Weidman Center Leadership Lecture series. His remarks focused on how problems cannot be solved until they have been identified.

The college will host its fifth annual Student Innovator of the Year (SIOY) competition on Nov. 7 and 13.  Several teams of student inventors will compete for $12,000 in prize money. All audience members will have the chance to win t-shirts, an iPod Shuffle, iPod Nano, iPad, GoPro and much more.

International Fair set for October 16

All engineering and technology students are invited to the Clyde Building Lounge on October 16th from 12 - 2 p.m. to learn about the many international opportunities, including study abroad programs and international internships, offered within the Ira A. Ira Fulton offers a dollar for dollar donation match for new engineering building

Ira Fulton, our college's namesake, announced Thursday that he is offering a dollar for dollar donation match for up to $1,000,000 to help everyone double the impact of their donations to the new engineering building.  The match is for all new gifts between Oct. 9 and Dec. 31, 2014. 

BYU engineers earn 10 percent of Tau Beta Pi scholarships nationwide

Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society, announced the 242 Tau Beta Pi Scholars for the 2014-15 academic year. This year, 25 of the scholars--more than 10% of the nationwide total--are students attending Brigham Young University.  Of these BYU students, 8 are chemical engineers, 6 are civil engineers, 4 are electrical or computer engineers, and 7 are mechanical engineers.  Last year BYU students received 18 of 210 scholarships.

Professor Rollin Hotchkiss has been appointed as the committee chair for the Environmental Advisory Board for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Fulton Week is right around the corner.  Come join your classmates in celebrating our college by meeting Ira A. Fulton in person, participating in service projects, connecting with clubs and attending an 80s themed dance, all sponsored by the students on your Engineering and Technology Leadership Council.

Learning strong leadership through positivity

Dane L. Parker spoke on the benefits of being a positive leader in today's society. During his lecture he explained out that one of the most powerful leadership principles is to see what is right in others.
