Some of the best civil engineering students in the country will travel to BYU when it hosts the National Student Steel Bridge Competition (NSSBC) for civil engineers on Friday, May 27 - Saturday, May 28.

Tiny origami-inspired devices opening up new possibilities for minimally-invasive surgery

BYU mechanical engineering professors Larry Howell and Spencer Magleby  by applying the principles of origami to engineering. Now they’re applying their origami skills to a new realm: the human body. The duo, along with professor Brian Jensen and their students, are working toward surgical technology that will allow for the manufacturing of instruments so small that the size of incisions necessary to accommodate the tools can heal on their own—without sutures.

Success through leading innovation and change

The Weidman Center for Global Leadership hosted its first leadership lecture of the semester on Feb. 18. Tom Ingersoll, an accomplished aerospace entrepreneur and BYU alum, spoke to students about his biggest leadership takeaways after more than 25 years in the industry.

Finalists advance to university-level competition for Three Minute Thesis

The college hosted its annual competition for top research presenters on Wednesday, Feb. 17. The two college finalists will have the opportunity to compete with students from around campus at the Three Minute Thesis competition on March 10.

U.S. Army chief of engineers advises students to be leaders

Lt. Gen. Thomas P. Bostick visited BYU on Feb. 4 and spoke to students about leadership. As the U.S. Army’s 53rd Chief of Engineers and Command General of the Corps of Engineers, he is responsible for overseeing much of the nation’s infrastructure and military construction.

Over 120 companies will be searching for technical talent at the Winter 2016 BYU STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Career Fair on Thursday, Feb. 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the WSC Ballroom and Garden Court. All Ira A. Fulton College students are encouraged to attend.

BYU Construction Management continues to impress at national competition

A team of Brigham Young University construction management students won third place at the Residential Construction Management Competition in Las Vegas on Jan. 23. In the 26-year history of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) competition, BYU’s construction management team has placed in the top three 22 times.

BYU CM students place second in national competition

Four construction management students from Brigham Young University placed second in the safety category at the National Construction Management Student Competition in 2015.
