PYROMETER

   The pyrometer is fundamentally a sensor package that includes two miniature video cameras, various lenses, narrow band and neutral density fillers, laser diodes, coherent fiber optics for guiding laser light, and circuitry for controlling the filters. The compact system, roughly two meters long, is positioned within the oxygen lance and is coupled to the window and collection lens via fiber optic cables. The real-time output from the video camera is transmitted to a remotely located control station for data storage and processing. A high-velocity laboratory air purge is used to cool the assembly and maintain clear optical surfaces at the lance tip.
